The pediatric nutrition industry is well established in Malaysia, and six of the companies are part of an industry partnership called the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturer’s Infant Formula Ethics Committee (FIFEC). Member companies include Abbott Laboratories, Danone Dumex, Dutch Lady Milk Industries, Fonterra Brands, Mead Johnson Nutrition, Nestle Products and Wyeth Nutrition. Our member companies play an important role in providing products that are an adjunct to breastfeeding in the nutrition of infants and young children. They are committed to giving priority to breastfeeding. FIFEC is also a platform to facilitate ethical business practices and is an important voice that represents the Infant Formula Industry to the Ministry of Health. Together, these companies provide employment to a substantial number of Malaysians and contribute to the revenue of the government through direct and indirect taxes. Each of the companies also plays an important role in Malaysia through various community programs (e.g. assistance to underprivileged institutions, continuing medical education for healthcare professionals and conducting nutrition studies in partnership with national universities). Some examples reflecting the industry’s continuing commitment to society are:
The industry is keen to further progress dialogue with key stakeholders including the Ministry of Health and has taken several initiatives in this regard.
Vision To be a committed and responsible industry organisation, working as a trusted partner with stakeholders to uphold the credibility of the industry and support infant and young child nutrition in Malaysia
Mission To support the nutritional well-being of infants and young children in Malaysia by upholding code compliance in partnership with stakeholders and act as a resource partner for the industry
